HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT (HIM) DIRECTOR

The HIM Director is responsible for affecting the ongoing quality and efficiency for all areas and processes of the department.   Important factors to the success of this position are strategic planning for process improvement and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key Infinity leaders, clients, and clinicians.  The Director is also a member of Infinity’s HIPAA Executive Committee and serves to report and educate on HIPAA Privacy compliance with facility employees.

Typical Physical/Mental Demands:

Requires prolonged sitting and use of computer monitor.  Eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity. Ability to distinguish letters, symbols, and colors.  

Ability to effectively analyze and draw accurate conclusions is required.  Strong mental acuity required to function in a fast-paced environment with multiple activities occurring simultaneously while maintaining focus and control of workflow.

Must be able to lift 35 pounds.  Occasional travel may be required.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office environment.  Ability to tolerate varying conditions of noise levels, temperature, illumination, and air quality.

Primary Responsibilities:

The HIM Directs oversees the overall operations of Clinical Services, Utilization Review, and Medical Records.   Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the integrity and safeguarding of client clinical records.
  • Periodic assessment of client clinical records to ensure billing and regulatory compliance
  • Tracking and reporting client record deficiencies on assessed records.
  • Ensuring staff provides timely acquisition of authorization information.
  • Ensuring staff in-services new clients on Clinical Services’ service scope.
  • Ensuring timely response to records requests from payers.
  • Liaises with Legal Counsel to work on client SIU cases.
  • Participating and assisting in driving IBHS goals and quality metrics.
  • Upholding IBHS policy and regulatory requirements of pertinent agencies (CMS, JCAH, DCF, etc.).
  • Reviewing active cases to ensure that UR standards are being adhered to in accordance with clinical guidelines/processes.
  • Ensuring that case load productivity standards is maintained.
  • Assisting with the process of obtaining authorizations on ‘difficult’ active cases for UR staff members.
  • Working with clients to develop and implements programs and activities to optimize patient length of stay.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • BA or BS Degree in Health Care or Business Administration required. 
  • RHIT certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of coding/APC regulatory guidelines required.
  • 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in a large behavioral health care or mental health practice or hospital setting required.

Preferred Education:

  • Masters of Business Administration preferred.
  • RHIA certification preferred.
